Hello Friends!
I don’t know about you, but I love gifting people books.
Books make great gifts and are sometimes overlooked, especially in our increasingly digital society – they can have special meanings, can be enjoyed anywhere and as American author, Garrison Keillor states ” A book is a gift you can open again and again“.
Today I was happy to visit the ” Kingfisher Bookstore“, a family-owned bookstore on Coupeville’s Historic Waterfront.
I met owners, Meg & Brad Olson, who have been owning the shop since July 2018 and gave me some insights into the history of the business.
Built in 1916, this local business was originally the “Benson Confectionary” shop later a liquor store and finally a bookstore since the ’80s.
In the past two years, the newly owned shop went through a lot of renovations. Besides the esthetical and structural updates, Meg and Brad have replaced/restored the historic windows to their original conditions. The downstairs level was just plain cement and now has a new staircase leading to a new area. The original cargo door has been restored as well and can now be open and used to lead the customers in the outside area by the water.
This lovely bookstore has a large variety of books but specializes in books by Pacific Northwest writers and about the human and natural history of this incredible part of the world.
You will be able to find maps and cards created by local artists, and in addition to new books, there is now a used book section that you can enjoy while seating on the outside deck admiring the gorgeous views.
I will certainly come back and bring my son who enjoys reading books as much as I do.
No matter your interest, Kingfisher Bookstore has a book for you!
